The 2008 Porsche 911 GT2 has been snapped during hot weather testing. We have previously seen pictures of the GT2 cold weather testing in Europe but the countryside in these pictures is the polar opposite.

This most hardcore of the 911 genre was spotted in the Californian desert where temperatures are reaching 52deg centigrade at this time of year. No doubt a suitable testing ground for the hyper twin-turbo mill.

The 911 GT2 will feature a much modified version of the current Turbo?s 3.6-litre twin-turbo engine. Oil and cooling systems are uprated to deal with the extra stress and heat while the conrods and crankshaft have been swapped out for stronger items. The gearbox will be a close ratio six-speed and the overall package should weigh in at 1485kg or lighter than the current 911 Turbo.

Weight has been saved by adopting ceramic brake discs, deleting air-conditioning and removing as much sound deadening material as possible. As is GT2 tradition, the biggest weight saving is achieved by ditching the Turbo?s AWD system and putting the power to the rear wheels only? With close to an expected 400Kw (391Kw is the current estimate) the GT2 will be one of the meanest, fastest and wildest supercars known to man, it will also be the fastest factory 911 ever, with a top speed expected to be in excess of 320km/h.

You will want to be in possession of two abilities before plonking down a deposit on this mad 911. The first is the ability to put your hands on a lot of cash, $300k or so and the next is the ability to handle a psycho supercar with huge power, rear wheel drive and a distinct absence of electronic nannies to keep you on the straight and narrow.

A Chapel Street boulevard cruiser it is not?this one will bite. Expect to see this monster arrive in Australia sometime in 2008. The 2008 911 GT2 is already very high on our list of most desirable cars?ever.
