This striking new design is the latest in a combined effort from Ford’s new global engineering team which features German, English and North American blue oval designers, now based in Cologne. Their task was to design Ford’s next small car and they were given few boundaries.

From the massive lower grill at the front of the car through to the low, pillarless roof line, this concept is a step in the right direction for Ford. The Verve Concept may well be the next Fiesta, although I doubt it will include those neat 2-piece 18” wheels (or the model for that matter).

The Verve combines the Mazda 2 platform (as part of the Ford shared global vehicles strategy), with the design teams “kinetic design” philosophy, incorporating cues of “muscularity and agility” .

The interior takes cues from today’s technology generation and their favourite toy, the mobile phone, with the centre of the dash resembling a huge Nokia.

Designed for today’s "demanding and fashion-conscious" generation the Verve will be officially unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show (IAA) in a few weeks. The Verve is the first of three small car concepts that Ford will be releasing at various motor shows over the coming months with a view to gauging public reaction to the new designs.
