Ford Transit ECOnetic Van SWB On Sale In Australia From July

Ford Australia has announced it will launch its new Transit ECOnetic Van SWB in July, positioned as the entry-level model in the Transit line-up and priced from $36,490 (manufacturer's list price).

The second ECOnetic model in the local Ford range after the launch last year of the Ford Fiesta ECOnetic (read review), the front-wheel-drive Transit ECOnetic Van is powered by a recalibrated version of the 2.2 litre Duratorq diesel engine and paired with a six-speed manual transmission.

The ultra-efficient Transit lists a fuel consumption figure of 7.2 l/100km on the combined cycle, its Duratorq engine producing 85kW at 3500rpm and 300Nm of torque between 1800 and 2000rpm.

The regular Transit Van SWB, in its front-wheel-drive layout, lists a fuel consumption figure of 8.2 l/100km.

Available only in the short-wheelbase body, the Transit ECOnetic offers the same 6.55m³ of cargo capacity, with the ability to carry up to 1172kg.

"We have been looking for opportunities to extend our ECOnetic range of vehicles since we introduced the Fiesta ECOnetic in late 2009," Ford Australia Marketing Vice President Beth Donovan said.

"Offering low fuel economy and emissions to commercial van customers, through a range of ECOnetic technologies, was the logical next step to build upon the launch of the Fiesta ECOnetic."

As with its Fiesta cousin, the Transit ECOnetic brings improved fuel economy by combining the 2.2 Duratorq engine with low-rolling-resistance tyres, aerodynamic wheel covers, low-friction oil and a 'Green shift' indicator, helping drivers determine the best time to change gear.

Pricing and Availability

The Transit ECOnetic Van will have a Manufacturer's List Price of $36,490 when it goes on sale in July. Pricing does not include dealer delivery or on-road costs.
