The lesser-endowed Megane has a PB of 8:16.9 when equipped with track-oriented Toyo tyres.
On paper, the RS should have the edge, with the vital stats coming in at 171kW (230hp) and 313Nm (229 lb-ft) for the R26.R and 221kW (297hp) and 443Nm (324 lb-ft) for the Ford Focus RS.
A de-tuned 186kW (250hp) Focus RS, fitted with standard Continental rubber has managed to clock an 8:27 lap time so far. Ford feels that, at full power, the Focus is capable of an 8:15 lap time.
Reports indicate that if Ford can get close to this time it will consider making Toyo Cup tyres part of the options list, which could subtract a further three seconds from that lap time. This would the Ford Focus RS the top spot for hot hatches.
N??rburgring lap times have divided the masses in so far as how much they actually matter, but we're not about to stand in the way of anyone pushing the limits of their vehicles for all the world to see.
