Ford is giving its Aussie fans a hard time at the moment. Last week we reported on the very real possibility that Ford will be handling their RWD architecture development in North America instead of leaving it in the more than capable hands of Ford Australia.

The decision leaves Ford’s Australian outpost on ground that is perhaps a little less solid than it was when it not only had local cars to build but a global architecture to design.

News across the net is that a couple of FG Falcons have bobbed up in the States, specifically, in the Detroit area. Now this may mean very little but the guessing has already begun.

The most believable ‘guess’ is that the FG’s are in town as their RWD architecture is relatively up-to-the-minute and a perfect starting point for the development of a global RWD architecture – saving Ford time and money.

The romantic notion and the one all of us Aussie’s would like to believe, is that Ford are looking to import the FG Falcon to the States. Don’t hold your breath on this one though and again you can probably thank the exchange rate and decisions made in Ford boardrooms many months before the release of the FG.

This isn't the first time that the FG Falcon has been spotted in the States, with a white pre-production car being spotted last June.

Ford have big plans for their upcoming RWD platform, which is expected to underpin the likes of the next generation Mustang, future Lincolns, a replacement for the ancient Crown Victoria and even our next generation local Falcon.
