At 12:01am this morning Andrew Richmond took delivery of his White Ivory Pearl Premium GT-R - the first to be officially sold by Nissan in Australia - at Ferntree Gully Nissan by special arrangement.
We're betting he's still wide awake and grinning like a madman (and chances are, if he's given it a stab, he may have already had a change of underpants).
Richmond is no stranger to the GT-R scene:
“This will be my second Nissan GT-R. I have been a huge fan of the GT-R since getting involved in club level motorsports. I chose a Nissan R34 GT-R V Spec as my motorsports vehicle and have loved GT-R’s since.â€
Australian-delivered R35s will only be available from 11 specially-selected Nissan dealerships.
Dealers will set aside special bays, carry nitrogen for the tyres and in some cases have modified access ramps to protect the GT-R's aerodynamic components.
If you're interested in purchasing Nissan's finest, then you'll need to be within striking-distance of the following locations:
- NSW: Campbelltown and Brookvale
- VIC: Ferntree Gully, Werribe
- SA: Nailsworth
- QLD: Moorooka, Southport, Mackay
- TAS: Hobart
- WA: Melville, Wangara
It doesn't stop there either, with dealerships also offering a bespoke service program that comprises three separate elements.
The first is a special vehicle inspection after 2,000km (and annually thereafter) which Nissan will provide to GT-R owners at no charge for the first three years of the car’s life. This inspection service will comprise a check and adjustment to the wheel alignment, a check of the engine tune as well as transmission and clutch settings.
Regular servicing occurs at 10,000km or at six-month intervals (whichever comes first), and comprises the usual engine oil and filter changes and fluid checks.
Finally, for customers who take the opportunity to 'enjoy' their cars at track days, Nissan GT-R dealers will be able to offer a post track day inspection service, which looks at suspension geometry, vital brake components and lubricant and fluid checks.
Like the regular service, owners will have to pony up the cost of the post-track inspection.
Precision machines require specialist care and it looks like Nissan has got all the bases covered. With countless more buyers set to follow in Andrew Richmond's footsteps, the GT-R is looking a lot like 'the next big thing'.

at 12.01am, im surprised he wasnt mugged for the keys! LOL ^.^
bet he wore the helmet on the way home..
I AM SUPER JEALOUS, GREEN WITH ENVY, This car is to be waxed every day, driven only in perfect condition. Lord help me buy one..... I want a brand new one... non-molested down through the years gone by. It's really going to be like, don't smoke or drink in my car...no exception...s3x...maybe.. hahah's
First to Buy it, First to get OWNED on the street by anything mildly modified and half the price!
Care to name what sort of mildly modified cars will "own" the GTR?
Mazda RX-7 FD. Older GT-R's. It's not hard, the R35 is up on a podium in everyone's eye's for no good reason.
Joe, I am a Mazda man myself and I see where you are coming from. My understanding is that every new GT-R is better than the predecessor. If mild modification can bring the older GT-Rs to R35 standards, can you imagine the possibility of modding the R35? Not to mention that bringing any older car to R35's performance will no doubt make it difficult to live with on normal roads on a day to day basis (i.e. reliability?). You have to look at this car as a whole. 99% of its owners will probably not see any track time at all. It'll spend most of its life either in a garage, or weekend short trips. For a car that can carry 4 adults and luggage whilst remaining civilised for normal road duties and completely berserk when you want it to, nothing comes close.
caterham's maybe? high revving turbo'd 20valve or a 'busa motor in something that light would surely give a 35 a run for its money in a straight line / cornering... the practicality is the only problem :)
The RE Amemiya RX-7 is "mildly" modified? I'd hate to think what you think is "extensively" modified...
Yeah; fair point.
Its OK. The GT500 R35 GT-R is quicker than the RE Amemiya RX-7 on the track, so a tuned R35 is still quicker than a tuned FD. If Japan's premier rotor tuning shop's demo car is considered "mildly modded", then so should Nismo's race car.
Comparing price / performance with new and stock vs old and modified just shows how stupid you are. For practically any car, if you left it stock you could build something just as fast for less money. One will just have a thrashed history, not be street legal, not have a warranty, and not be anywhere near as streetable. And what car + mods for under $80K are you going to get that will run low 11s quarters and still reasonably be classed as "mildy modified"? You could probably get a older GT-R to do those kinds of times for those kinds of prices, but then you're comparing a 10 year old car with a new one.
Joe, there is more to a performance car than a straightline street drag, that said the 09MY GT-R is good for an 11.6 1/4 mile (11.34sec quickest to date), so i imagine anything that is a low 11 sec or 10 sec is much more than mildly modified and possibly not a great daily driver, furthermore they won't be able to match wet weather ability or even beat it on the track. An RX-7 can't carry 4 in comfort either.
You Tube has the proof of the FD handing it to the R35 - around corners! Hot Version tested an RE-Amemiya FD RX-7 against an MCR modified R35. The heavy R35 just cant cut it on the twisties.
As much as I love GT-R's I can confirm what Joe is saying about the RE Amemiya RX-7, I watched that clip myself. Having said that, a Touge track is vastly different than a race circuit so the results could vary dependent on the environment.
2jz-GTE with approximately $5,000 worth of mods would match it if not beat it in a straight line, would be interesting around a track though haha, with that said I think the new GT-R is one of the best cars in this day and age! I think it is a little too pricey for my finances but one day I'll buy one :P Lucky Bastards!
nice car but expensive services i hear. Tempted to consider it but not sure now. May go for the 370z. Interestin to see the dealers i bought my previous cars are on the list. Bought my 1st car, Nissan 200sx at Fentreen gully and my 350z at werribee. Both are great dealers, friendly and good price which i aint to surprise to see them to become authorised dealer for GTR.
I have many supers such as Lamboghini Mercielago LP640, Ferrari F430, Posche Carrera GT, Ford GT and Posche Boxster S. I was going to order a Skyline GTR but then i realised that there is going to be a GTR R35. I am so lucky i was going to buy the older when a new was about be on sale. I have been in a the Syline GTR and it is an abosolute beauty and it performs very well.
