While fans of the long-running Fast & Furious franchise await the release of the fifth instalment later this year (see the trailer here), a new film more in the vein of Stephen King's Christine is set to hit screens in April.

Directed by Quentin Dupieux, Rubber is a mock horror that tells the story of Robert, a worn old tyre that just might have lived a life wrapped around one of Christine's wheels, escaping her final destruction (and blacking out his whitewalls as part of his new identity).

Abandoned in the desert, Robert suddenly comes to life, using telepathic and telekinetic powers to destroy anything that gets in his way - including the local police officers that cotton onto his sentience.

Rubber looks to be all that a fan of B-grade horror flicks can ask for. Whether it will find its way to Australian cinemas remains unclear, but a DVD release will undoubtedly follow its US theatrical opening.
