If diminutive hot-hatches are your thing then the Fiat Abarth 500 Esse Esse (read 'SS') may be just the ride to tickle your fancy. Fiat couldn't wait to take the wraps off at next month's Paris Motor Show and has pre-emptively released official images for all to enjoy.

Italian 'small car' performance specialists Abarth, whose history with Fiat goes back to the 500s and 600s of the late 1950s and '60s, have worked over the little Fiat 500 giving it a host of visual and performance upgrades worthy of the 'SS' moniker.

The all-new body kit includes a deep front spoiler, re-designed rear which incorporates a pair of chrome exhaust tips and a rear diffuser, lower side skirts, and a small rear spoiler. Larger (at a guess 17-inch) wheels are fitted in addition to a graphics package to ensure the SS clearly stands out from the crowd.

The cabin also keeps pace with the exterior's racy theme and includes sports seats and instruments, red trimming, and Abarth logos throughout.

At this stage performance specifics have not been revealed but it's highly likely that the SS will be pumping out around 120kWs from its 1.4L turbocharged four-banger. Power will be put down via a 6-speed manual through Q2 Torsen C limited slip differential. Expect a commensurate braking and suspension package to balance out the equation.

The 500 is already one of the best looking retro mini-hatches. Add in the classy Abarth touch, and pocket-rocket performance, and you've got a desirable little package in the Fiat Abarth 500 Esse Esse. Small, lightweight and fun: sounds good to us.
