Ferrari 599 Roadster Revealed As Ferrari SA Aperta

After a somewhat secretive unveiling at this year's Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance in the US (private viewings only), Ferrari has at last revealed the roadster version of its 599 supercar, dubbed the Ferrari SA Aperta.

Developed to celebrate the 80th birthday of the famous Pininfarina design house, the open-top 599 pays homage to the studio's key names, Sergio Pininfarina and his song Andrea. In English, 'Aperta' means simply 'open'.

With a lower-set windscreen, fixed roll-bars and a set of aerodynamic fins to channel airflow over and around the interior, the SA Aperta gets a simple cloth top that Ferrari says should be "resorted to only if the weather gets particularly bad."

More than a simple chopjob of the hardtop 599, Ferrari has tweaked the chassis of the SA Aperta to maintain the coupe's stiffness while maintaining a negligible weight difference. 

The SA Aperta's powertrain is borrowed from the recently-revealed 599 GTO, giving it a tweaked version of the 599's Enzo-derived V12 developing 500kW and 620Nm of torque - up from the already impressive 456kW and 607Nm of the regular 599. Performance figures have not been released.

Production of the SA Aperta will be limited to just 80 cars - one for each year of Pininfarina's history... and all 80 examples have been sold already.
