MELBOURNE'S FEDERATION SQUARE is set to play host to a free car show on the last Sunday of every month, right up until Christmas this year, courtesy of enthusiast automotive insurance company Shannons.

The Fed Square Car Club showcase starts this Sunday, June 28, and will feature a display of sports cars from the 1920s and 1930s, by the Vintage Drivers Club.

The following month, on the 26th of July, will see 50 porsches from across the company's storied history displayed at Federation Square.

"This is an exciting concept which we really believe will catch the public's imagination," Shannons Business Development Manager for Victoria, Richard Sanders, said.

"We're excited about working in with Federation Square, as each display will get a huge audience, both of enthusiasts and city visitors lucky enough to be in the area on each Sunday."

Mr Sanders said the concept had received enormous interest from Victorian car clubs, leading to a waiting list that stretches two and a half years for clubs to showcase their cars at Fed Square.

August 30 will see American cars from the 1950s and 1960s on display, before the Volkswagen Club of Victoria shows up on September 27.

Come October 25, the Triumph Sports Owners Association of Victoria will display its classic treasures at the modern venue, and the (Ford) Capri Club of Victoria will take over on November 29.

The display will be held along the venue's Flinders Street frontage, between the entrance to ACMI, and St. Paul's Court, before Swanston Street.
