UNIVERSAL STUDIOS has today announced the return of the Fast and Furious franchise for a fifth outing, coming to cinemas in 2011.
Confirming comments on actor Vin Diesel's Facebook profile last month, the next instalment - bearing the working title 'Fast Five' - will be penned by Fast & Furious scribe Chris Morgan.
Stars Paul Walker and Vin Diesel will reprise their roles for the new film, and director Justin Lin - responsible for the third and fourth films - has also been confirmed to return.
The story is expected to continue on from last year's Fast & Furious, this time with Dom (Diesel) and Brian (Walker) being pursued by - according to Universal's release - "relentless lawmen".
Fast & Furious was Universal's highest-grossing film for 2009, pulling in around $400 million worldwide. The film missed out on the year's top 10 grossing films, with tenth-place Night at the Museum 2 making around $480 million worldwide.
