RED BULL STAR Sebastian Vettel has declared he is refusing to give up on his dream of claiming the Formula 1 Driver’s Championship this season.

Vettel sits 16 points behind championship leader Jenson Button as the season approaches its penultimate round in Brazil, and needs to win the final two races to have any hope of clinching an unlikely world title.

However, Button can wrap up the title with a top-three finish in either of the final two races even if Vettel is able to climb the top step of the podium at Interlagos and the Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi.

But the 22-year-old said he will maintain the fight to Button until it is mathematically impossible.

“For now we are looking forward for the last two races, the Championship is still open; we will try to do our best and try to win the last races! It’s a long way but we are here to fight,” Vettel said.

In Brazil, Vettel can count on the support of seven-time champion Michael Schumacher, who has urged his compatriot to not give up hope on securing a debut title in only his third season.

“Both championships are still open, and for me it is obviously important to see how the constructors' championship will end - of course I wish for our guys to defend their third position," Schumacher said on his official website.

“I think it helps to think of a fact which I was always sticking to during my career: it is not over until it is over; you have to fight until the end.

"At Ferrari, we live that experience very successfully since many years, and I am convinced it will be like this again this time.

“Sebastian as well will probably share this view because he still has the chance to win the title. This alone is already a big success.

"I am sure he will make everything possible to show a good performance in the next two races. Mathematically everything is still possible, and I will keep my fingers crossed for him.”
