F1 Singapore Grand Prix: Toyota’s Thoughts

Singapore’s highly anticipated inaugural F1 Grand Prix—a night race, no less—will be staged on the 28th of September: this coming weekend. Singapore has held Grand Prix races since the 60s under the Formula Libre banner, however 2008 marks its first time hosting a race of the FIA Formula One World Championship.

This week, Toyota Racing and its steerer Jarno Trulli shared their thoughts on the race.

"It can definitely be the Monaco of the east because of the character of this street circuit, but it could be also the Nurburgring of the east because we are talking about 23 corners, which starts to sound like the old Nurburgring!" Pascal Vasselon, Senior General Manager Chassis at Toyota Racing, said.

Asked for his thoughts on the feeling behind the wheel, Jarno Trulli commented:

"I've seen the plans and the Grand Prix looks amazing so far, although you always need to drive the track first before having a proper idea of it.  You need to understand the corners and the speeds so you know more about the set-up and the kind of downforce we are going to run.  It is a new challenge because we don't know the track or the conditions so it will be interesting."

I’m not a fan of F1 racing, but going on the comments above and the fact that it’s a night race, I’ve got a feeling I’ll be watching this one.  Might even jump into the TMR jet and head over…
