FERRARI'S FELIPE MASSA believes his dream of making a return from injury at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix in November is unlikely to come to fruition.

Massa is on the comeback trail after incurring life-threatening injuries during the Hungarian Grand Prix and has already completed a brief go-karting session in his native Brazil.

However, the 2008 championship runner-up conceded it is highly unlikely he will be ready to return to the championship by the season ending event at Yas Marina Circuit.

“My dream would be to be at Abu Dhabi, but the chances of this happening are very, very low," he said.

"My hope is to come back soon, although I know the ideal thing is to return 100% at the start of next season."

Massa has returned to Maranello to commence preparations for a test in a Ferrari F2007, fitted with GP2 tyres, likely to occur on Monday.

However, his hopes of returning to the cockpit rest on the result of a meeting with an FIA medical examiner, who needs to approve of Massa’s return.

He told Ferrari’s official website: “Tomorrow (Friday) I'll go to Paris for some medical check-ups at the FIA and on Monday, if the weather is fine, I should finally be behind the wheel of a Formula 1 single-seater.

"I hope that I can do many miles and do well, not only in terms of performance but also as far as constant lap times are concerned.

"I'm confident and I think that there won't be any problems. It's true that a Formula 1 car vibrates a lot and there is lots of physical stress, but I'm used to it."

With Kimi Raikkonen to leave Ferrari at the end of the season, Massa will line up alongside double World Champion Fernando Alonso next year.

Massa though said he is unfazed by the prospect of competing with Alonso, the fourth World Champion to partner the former Sauber driver in his eight year career.

“I’m sure that with Alonso we’ll form a great team and we’ll work together very well. The goal will be very simple: winning,” he said.
