FORMER F1 Champion Lewis Hamilton has been summonsed to appear at the Melbourne Magistrates Court after his 'burnout' near the site of the 2010 F1 Australia Grand Prix.

At the time of the incident, Victoria Police said Hamilton was "extremely cooperative" and "disappointed" with the incident. Reports described Hamilton as "visibly upset" and "worried this would dent his reputation".

Charged with intentionally losing control of a vehicle, a summons was delivered this week to Hamilton's lawyer, specifying a hearing date of August 24.

With the Belgian Grand Prix scheduled for August 29, it is unlikely that Hamilton will appear in Melbourne for the hearing.
