NEWLY CROWNED WORLD Champion Jenson Button is keen to round off a stellar campaign on a high note at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix this weekend.

Button secured the driver’s title with a stunning drive to fifth place at Interlagos, overcoming the challenge of Sebastian Vettel and Rubens Barrichello to become the 10th Briton to claim motorsport’s ultimate prize.

But despite wrapping up the championship, Button is keen to return to the top step of the podium for the final race of the season, having failed to win a race since round seven in Turkey.

“It's a fantastic feeling to be going into the final race having achieved my ambition of winning the drivers' championship and with the team having wrapped up the constructors' championship in Brazil,” he said.

“We want to finish the season in style with a great result but we can be a little more relaxed in our approach to the weekend.”

Meanwhile, Fernando Alonso hopes to leave Renault in style as he bids farewell to the French outfit at the innovative Yas Marina circuit.

Alonso has spent six years over two stints at Renault between 2003 and 2009, winning 17 Grands Prix and two driver’s championships, making him the manufacturer’s most successful ever driver.

The 28-year-old, who heads to Maranello and Ferrari next season, said he expects his final race with Renault to be an emotional experience.

“Absolutely, I would love to finish the season and my Renault career with a great result,” he said.

“It will be an emotional race because I have enjoyed so many special memories with this team and I am leaving behind a lot of friends.

“Renault is one of the great teams in Formula One and I look forward to fighting with them on the track in the years ahead.”
