Oh, those crazy Japanese. What won't they think of next? A Nihon robotics company called iXs Research has just given birth to a robotic teddy bear that will accompany you in your next car.

Its main purpose is to function as a navigation system, complete with hand gestures to point the way, and give you the skinny about any interesting landmarks that may be in the vicinity when you stroke its head.

Unfortunately there's a darker side, in which the bear serves as a robotic nanny. Sensors hidden beneath its fuzzy wuzzy hide will measure the alcohol content on your breath, prompting the bear to ask, “You haven’t been drinking, have you?” if you're stonkered, or exclaim "Watch out!" when it senses sudden braking or swerving.

iXs Research ultimately hopes to make the unit smaller and available with several different types of bodies. Expect to see it in the market next year.
