While the upcoming GM Camaro is definitely a head turner for all of the right reasons when it comes to future American muscle the Dodge Challenger is my personal favourite. It manages to combine sensuous and tough into a styling package that is just about perfect.

Car Magazine have managed to obtain some pictures of a disguised Challenger mule and as you can see it would appear that Chrysler are changing little and plan to bring the original Challenger concept to the showroom relatively un-changed.

This includes the concepts 19-inch wheels (hardly huge these days anyway), uniquely styled door mirrors and even the quad headlight front end. To see all of the pictures visit Car Online.

The new Challenger will use Chrysler’s latest large rear-wheel drive platform and as expected Hemi power will be a feature. A revised version of the 6.1-litre Hemi that powers the 300C SRT-8 is the likely choice with around 335Kw running through a six-speed automatic transmission. The Challenger should be good for a sub five-second 0-100km/h time.

Given that Chrysler already supply Australia with a growing number of their models it would be reasonable to assume that we will see the Challenger in Australia…provided they are engineering a right-hand drive version. Challenger is expected to hit the road in its home country during 2008.
