With a strengthening Yen causing havoc, it comes as a surprise to learn that Subaru is bucking the current trend for Japanese manufacturers to increase prices, and announced price reductions.

Not content to simply leave pricing at 2008 levels, Subaru has announced that it has reduced the 'sticker price' on some popular variants in its Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive range.

Pricing of the entry-level Impreza R sedan and hatch has been reduced by $1500, now starting at $22,990 for manual variants.

The Liberty 2.5i SPORTSHIFT automatic sedan and wagon have both been reduced by $2000 to $32,990 for the sedan and $34,990 for the wagon.

While the Outback 2.5i SPORTSHIFT automatic has reduced by $2000 to $36,990.

“Our currency hedging has enabled us to pursue this aggressive tactical pricing policy. While other brands are increasing prices, we have a window of opportunity because of our hedging strategy,” said Nick Senior, Managing Director, Subaru Australia

Buyers be warned though. If you are in the market for a new Subaru, don’t be thinking that these price drops are permanent.

“Obviously with the dramatic drop in the exchange rate of the Australian dollar versus the Yen, we will inevitably have to review prices in the future, but just now we are passing on our good fortune to our customers.
