The latest Corvette Z06 has been out for a little while now so its not like it is new news but I thought an article was needed just to give the knockers of push-rods and cubic inches a few interesting facts.

The Z06 is a production Corvette available in the US for around US75k and a bit which is Porsche 911 money in the states. You can also buy one in Australia but landed, converted and registered it will cost you a cool AUD240k! Which oddly is 911 money in Oz. It just goes to show you how much our government stings us on imported cars.

Apart from being ‘raunched up’ in the looks department it has a hand built dry sumped 7.0 litre smallblock V8 with titanium conrods that will rev to 7100rpm and pumps out 377kW and 637Nm. The suspension has been tamed and will hold 1.04G when cornering according to GM. Should be a nice bit of kit to take out to the local track then...shouldn't it?

Lap times of the Nurburgring Nordschleife have long been one of the bench marks quoted by manufacturers of performance cars. A lap time of around 8 minutes or less is considered seriously quick.

The R33 GTR was the first production car to circulate the 'Ring' in less than 8 minutes with a lap time of 7:59. Since then, qualifying as a properly sorted and seriously quick performance car contender has meant lapping in less than 8 minutes.

The Corvette Z06, and remember that Corvettes have long been considered straight-line specialists and rubbish when it comes to handling, laps the great track in an astounding 7:43! Thats 2 seconds quicker than the Porsche 997 GT3 RS! The Z06 blasts from 0-100 kph in 3.7 seconds and goes on to storm the standing 400 metres in 11.7 seconds. Nuff said I reckon.
