As of earlier this week, motorists can now jump online to check speed camera calibration certificates for any fixed speed camera in Victoria. The certificates in question come into play when a fined motorist requests confirmation that the camera used is operating correctly - this info is requested around 100 times a year from the Department of Justice (DoJ). You can check it out here.
Victorian Premier John Brumby explained that the service would reduce the amount of Freedom of Information requests received by the DoJ - which equates to around 20% of the total requests received - and shore-up public perception of speed camera accuracy.Perhaps the best part of this new service is that, for the first time, speed camera locations are shown freely on a map rather than being listed alphabetically, as has been the case in the past.
What do you think guys and girls? Do you trust this information? Have you been fined before and doubted the accuracy? Will this service change your view?
