In breaking news over the weekend it has been confirmed that former rally champion Colin McRae has been killed in a helicopter crash. McRae was piloting his Squirrel helicopter when it crashed in Jerviswood, Lanarkshire near the location of his 16th century home.

Reports indicate that the helicopter crashed and burst into flames and that there were no survivors. Tragically, it is believed that McRae’s son was one of three passengers aboard the helicopter, which also included McRae’s school friend and another child.

The inspiration behind one of the world’s most popular driving games (Colin McRae Rally) and a highly successful rally driver who clocked up 25 World Rally wins and 42 podium places, McRae was a legend.

McRae was famous for driving at 11/10ths, always on the ragged edge (see video) and was often involved in accidents, both major and minor. His driving talent was more natural than learned and highly entertaining.
