Reports of a Racing version of the upcoming Citroen DS4 have again surfaced online this week, suggesting Citroen is preparing to extend the 'Racing' badge across the full DS model line-up.

While the Citroen DS4 is scheduled to make an Australian debut late next year, the absence of a right-hand-drive version of the DS3 Racing (click to read TMR's review of the 2010 Citroen DS3) raises the question as to whether we'll ever see a right-hook DS4 Racing.

If a DS4 Racing is in fact in development, the success or failure of the DS3 Racing could decide the DS4 Racing's global future.

Taking on the likes of the Golf R and the RenaultSport Megane, Citroen is reportedly working to make its Hybrid4 diesel-electric hybrid system into a performance monster - an area the company has more than enough experience in, as shown by last year's Hybrid4-driven C3 rally car.

In regular guise, the DS4 is expected to be powered by the same 1.6 litre THP petrol engine driving Peugeot's RCZ sports car.

In the RCZ (and in the MINI John Cooper Works, which shares the same engine), the 1.6 litre engine produces 147kW and 275Nm of torque.

With the Hybrid4 system in play, the DS4 Racing would instantly benefit from an all-wheel-drive layout. According to German magazine Auto Bild, the DS4 Racing could produce around 215kW in such a scenario.
