The convertible version of the Sebring-replacing Chrysler 200 has reared its head in the Italian press this week, but like its hardtop sibling, don't expect it to appear in Australia.

Speaking with TMR today, Chrysler Australia's Dean Bonthorne said that while the wider Chrysler Group has a number of significant arrivals planned for 2011 and 2012, the Chrysler 200 range is not yet expected to be among them.

"It's only a matter of time until we have clarification on the right-hand-drive availability of the raft of Chrysler, Jeep and Dodge models revealed overseas," Mr Bonthorne said.

"For us in 2011, this starts with the Jeep brand, which will receive a major boost of new product in Australia over the course of the year; starting with the all-new Grand Cherokee in the coming weeks."

Mr Bonthorne's comments today follow confirmation late last year, after the unveiling of the Chrysler 200 sedan, that Chrysler Australia will focus on offering the existing Sebring Cabrio "for as long as possible."

While little has been revealed about the Chrysler 200 Cabrio, its mechanical package and trim options are likely to mirror the sedan, including its 2.4 litre four-cylinder and Chrysler's all-new 209kW 3.6 litre Pentastar V6 petrol engine.

For now, Australian buyers can look forward to the new Jeep Grand Cherokee being joined this year by the updated Jeep Patriot and Chrysler Grand Voyager. In 2012, the Chrysler brand's overhaul in Australia will kick off with the brand-new 300C large sedan and the updated Dodge Journey.
