US president elect Barack Obama will, next week, take the reins of a country very different to the one he started campaigning for. To offset a little of his pain, he does get access to an impressive new house (could the White House be the world's first McMansion?) as well as his very own custom-built Cadillac.

Admittedly Barack’s new Caddy isn’t customised in the way that you or I are familiar with. Instead of lowered suspension or added horsepower, Cadillac One comes with a full suite of body armor, bullet-proof windows and run-flat tyres. Specific details of the car are scarce however.

Unlike the previous presidential limo which debuted the styling of Cadillacs DTS, the new Cadillac is an entirely unique design, rumored to be built on a modified version of the GMT900 full-size SUV platform.

Headlights come from the Escalade and tail-lights have been raided from an STS sedan. The powertrain is unknown, but those who’ve heard the car running report a distinctly diesel sound.

"Cadillac is honoured to again provide a new Presidential Limousine," GM Premium Channel Vice President Mark McNabb said, “This is a great American tradition that we're delighted to renew with an all-new car featuring the best of Cadillac's dramatic design and technology."
