Bored With Your Old AW11 Toyota MR2? The Solution Is At Hand.

Toyota’s AW11 MR2, produced from 1984 to 1989, has always been a love-hate thing for me.  It is at once sporty looking and ridiculously boxy, with nary a curved surface to be seen.

Being a product of the boxy ol’ 80s, it’s not hard to see that some owners might grow bored with their AW11 – especially with curvier 90s and 00s sports cars cruising by.

One owner seems to have found a way to reinvigorate his relationship with the AW11…

Even without the Japanese registration plates to give the game away, you just know this little MR2 could only live in Japan.

The custom body kit and decals seem inspired by any number of animated robot weapons of war – perhaps Gundam or Macross – while the gaudy red and black interior, CB radio and dash-mounted binoculars complete the picture.

The ABARTH stickers on the flip-up headlight covers are a nice touch.
