BMW have introduced their new X6, the world’s first Sports Activity Coupe at the Frankfurt Motor Show. BMW were the first manufacturer to create a Sports Activity Vehicle, the popular X5 we have known and loved since the original concept was shown in 1999.

Based on the X5’s chassis the new X6 SAC sacrifices interior practicality for exterior appeal, combining the aesthetics of a coupe with the ground clearance and some of the practicality we associate with the X5.

Featuring a smooth coupe outline, short front overhang, long-wheelbase and muscular wheel arches along with the specially developed 21-inch Y-spoke alloy wheels the X6 is certainly striking.

The BMW X6 features the usual array of BMW electronic driving aids, including the latest BMW traction system, Dynamic Performance Control (DPC), which feeds a variable split of torque to the two rear wheels, providing a stabilising effect under power or when backing-off the accelerator.

When possible over-or understeer is detected, DPC will vary the distribution of drive forces between the wheels for perfect stability and traction. Benefits include higher lateral acceleration and optimum directional stability when accelerating out of a bend.

Combined with BMW's intelligent xDrive all-wheel drive technology, BMW believe that the X6’s drivetrain and chassis control systems offer a unique standard of safe and exciting driving stability in all conditions.

"The BMW Concept X6 is pure driving dynamics - an absolute trendsetter in the all-wheel drive segment. The BMW Concept X6 is a true BMW. And I can promise you that we will deliver a series model which is very similar to this concept car", said Dr. Norbert Reithofer, Chairman of the Board of Management of BMW AG.

Which answers the obvious question, how close is the concept going to be to the production model? With a few minor changes we suspect that you’re looking at it – the production model that is.
