SPY PHOTOGRAPHERS have captured BMW's eco-friendly concept car in transit, offering the first glimpse of the marque's sustainable sports car showpiece.

The concept remains under wraps, but the tight covering reveals some styling influences of the M1 Homage Concept, although with more practical and generous dimensions - along with four doors.

The low, sloping roofline and tell-tale cutlines of the rear doors suggests the new concept will preview an upcoming four-door coupe from BMW, likely to compete with the Mercedes-Benz CLS and just-announced Audi A5 Sportback.

Powertrain details are scant, but with its recent decision to leave Formula One in pursuit of a greener focus, BMW will likely bring its full EfficientDynamics catalogue to this concept.

The car will be officially unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show next month.
