BMW'S ANNOUNCEMENT overnight that it would be withdrawing from Formula 1 at the end of this season to focus on greener pursuits, has now been followed by confirmation that the luxury marque will reveal a green sports car at the upcoming Frankfurt Motor Show.
BMW Development board member Dr Klaus Draeger has confirmed today that the German carmaker will unveil a "sustainable and environmentally compatible" sports car in September, with styling expected to follow the lines of last year's popular BMW Homage concept.
Speaking to German magazine AutoTelegraaf, Dr Draeger said the sports car will showcase BMW's EfficientDynamics powertrain technology, as well as a range of sustainable construction methods and environmentally-conscious materials.
BMW is understood to be exploring the viability of the green sports car as a production model, with a limited run due around the end of 2012.
