Following news in July that the current-generation M5 has been put out to pasture, BMW has announced this week that the last E63/E64 M6 has come to the end of the assembly line.

BMW has built and sold 14,152 of its M6 Coupe (9087) and M6 Convertible (5065) cars since their 2005 and 2006 launches.

The retirement of the second-generation M6 also signals the end of the road for M Division's naturally-aspirated 5.0 litre V10, the F1-inspired engine producing 380kW and 520Nm of torque.

A successor to the outgoing M6 is on its way however, with a big-braked example spied testing in Europe late last month.

While little has been revealed by BMW for the next-generation 6 Series range, the M6 is expected to draw power from the same 4.4 litre twin-turbo V8 destined for the new M5 and also providing poke for the current X5 M and X6 M sports SUVs.
