NEW SPY PHOTOS this week reveal that BMW is testing an enhanced version of the current generation M3.

Visually, little is different about this prototype to the regular M3. The oversized ‘GT’ style rear wing however suggests BMW is developing a special M3, one for privateer racing teams and track enthusiasts.

Earlier this year, BMW and German racing outfit Schubert Motorsport revealed the BMW M3 GT4, with BMW M Division boss Kay Segler hinting that a production version could be in the works.

A production track-ready M3 would not be a first for BMW: in the 1990s, the German carmaker offered the special M3 GT, a homologation-series special model that gave BMW the sales needed to enter E36 M3 in the FIA-GT class II racing series.
