BMW has confirmed the open-top version of the i8 electric supercar will arrive in 2018.
Based on the concept car shown at the Beijing Motor Show a few years ago (pictured), we’re making the BMW i8 Roadster an early nomination for 2018’s best-looking new car to launch.
According to European reports emanating from a media function for the updated i3 hatchback in Santa Monica, California, BMW chief Harald Krueger said the i8 Roadster is a goer for 2018 but didn’t add any further details.
Earlier reports pointed to both the Roadster and hardtop version of the i8 scoring a more powerful electric motor (the current model is slated at 266kW/570Nm) and a longer range 10kWh battery.
We know the BMW i8 concept car had a shorter wheelbase and overall length than the hardtop and upward-swiveling windowless doors.
