BMW celebrates the five millionth 5-Series

BMW have notched up their five millionth 5-Series in what marks the 36th year since the very first 5-Series Beemer hit the road. The 5-Series started the tradition at BMW of naming their various models with a three digit number.

As we all know, the first digit represents the model (5 being the medium sized sedan) with the other two digits usually indicating the engine capacity, on occasion followed by a letter that designates the engine type.

The five millionth 5-Series rolled off BMW’s Dingolfing production line on the 29th of January and is a Carbon Black Metallic 530D sedan.
