BMW HAS ANNOUNCED in-car navigation and audio technology that promises to make life that little bit easier for drivers, thanks to a new, intelligent voice control system.

The technology has been designed so that a single voice command is all it takes to load your destination into the navigation system, with a simple verbal statement specifying the place, street and street number.

In this fashion, a driver can simply tell the system "100 Smith Street, Smithtown" and (assuming that quickly made-up location actually exists), the navigation system will help you get there.

The voice recognition system will not only work with the navigation unit, it will also allow you to find and select music to play, right down to individual song titles.

BMW says the system monitors and interprets the user's voice commands for the type of music, the name of the article, an album or an individual title, through an optimised and user-friendly range of voice commands.

The new navigation and audio select system will be launched in Germany later this year, with Australia to follow soon after.
