While BMW is busy designing computer case concepts, Bentley has put its woodworking team at Crewe ? responsible for the wooden interior trims of its big luxury cars ? to work creating cabinets, tables and furniture.
Never fear though, Bentley owners, nobody is going to receive their Bentley without its walnut trim.
In an effort to stave off la-yoffs in these hard economic times, 140 of Bentley?s best are using cut-offs for their furnishings. The word is that once they?re finished decking out the Crewe factory?s reception area, the group will turn its sights to Bentley showrooms ? and maybe even the general public.
Like Holden?s current plans for a rostered short week for its workers, Bentley?s move is a clever means of avoiding layoffs while the company works its way through the global economic crisis.
Thanks for the tip, Andy!
