Australian International Motor Show Confirmed For Sydney October 2010, Melbourne July 2011

CONTRARY TO A REPORT aired earlier in the week, the Australian International Motor Show is confirmed for Sydney in October 2010, returning to Melbourne the following year in early July 2011.

Following an exhibitor revolt against having to appear at two major motor shows annually in Australia, the staging of the Sydney and Melbourne Motor Shows is now in the hands of joint venture partners VACC and the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries, FCAI.

In the past, VACC staged the Melbourne Motor Show while FCAI ran the Sydney event. The joint venture partners will now stage just one Australian International Motor Show annually, alternating between the two capitals.

"The article published is simply innacurate. There are no outstanding issues relating to the staging of the shows or the joint venture," VACC Executive Director David Purchase told The Motor Report.

"I'm pleased at just how well the joint venture has gone, and how productively VACC and FCAI have been able to work together."

The Sydney Motor Show will run between the 14 and 24th of October 2010, and will be organised by the joint venture committee under the eye of  VACC's Russ Tyrie. Mr Tyrie has been Director of the Melbourne Motor Show for more than 10 years.

For the Melbourne International Motor Show - to be run in 2011 - the joint venture committee is looking at dates in early July.

"There is an immense amount of work to schedule an event as large as the Motor Show into the calendar at the MEC and with exhibitors," Mr Tyrie said.

So, Australian International Motor Show confirmed for Sydney in October 2010, and for Melbourne in July 2011.
