Shocking news concerning Audi’s brilliant RS4 sedan has hit the internet overnight. According to UK’s Autocar Audi have ceased production of the RS4 sedan. The RS4 is arguably the worlds best four door performance sedan and has only been in production two years.
The RS4 Avant and Cabriolet will remain in production…for the time being. Autocar speculated that production of the RS4 has ceased to make way for the upcoming RS6, Audi’s next super-saloon rumoured to be powered by a turbo-charged version of the Lamborghini Gallardo's V10.
Production capacity aside, this doesn’t make sense to us. Why would Audi drop a super successful model variant after only two years. The new RS6 sedan will no doubt command a significant price premium over the RS4 sedan so why drop the RS4?
Perhaps they are considering the yet to be released two-door RS5 a worthy replacement? There is no doubt that it promises to be as good as or better than the RS4 but it won’t have four doors and we know that BMW are planning a sedan version of their E92 M3 the RS4/5’s arch rival.
Strange decision this one. Autocar seemed quite confident that production of the RS4 sedan has ceased…heres hoping they got it wrong.
