Take one superb 373kW 5.2-litre V10 from the Lamborghini Gallardo, bolt a hairdryer on either side, intercool it, beef up the fuel system and hey presto you have one very serious 455kW motor! Now fit the monster motor to a high tech gear box, driving all four wheels and throw it into a family wagon.

That’s exactly what Audi’s plan is with their new Audi RS6 Avant. The use of the Lamborghini V10 is nothing new to Audi, as it is currently seen in the S6 and S8 in naturally aspirated ‘detuned’ variations producing 315Kw and 335Kw respectively. However what is new is the addition of twin-turbochargers.

Word on the street is that the original RS6 was planned to ‘only’ sport 425 kW, but tuning has seen the power blow out to around 455Kw (come on, it is a twin turbo V10!).

The inevitable comparison between the M5 and the RS6 will be like pitting an Omega Commodore against the HSV GTS. Expect 0-100 km/h times in the low to sub four second bracket and a top speed of 280 to 300km/h. All up making the RS6 a more then worthy replacement for its now ‘little brother’ the RS4. [Ed – I still prefer the RS4!!!]

Although nothing official has been said yet, we are expecting the RS6 to be officially unveiled at Frankfurt in a couple of weeks.
