Audi has just released Australian pricing for its R8 supercar and it expects to begin delivering the first cars in September of this year. The 6-speed manual will be priced from $259,900 while the R-tronic variant will start at $274,900.
Interestingly, Audi USA have been allocated 300 R8's per year and have already pre-sold their first years quota. In an effort to keep speculators out of the market they have been asked by Audi to request that all buyers sign a specially prepared affidavit. The affidavit states that the new R8 owner will give Audi dealers the first right of refusal to buy back their R8 at an acceptable price, if they should ever wish to sell.
Signing the affidavit is not mandatory but dealers will be working on the principal that a genuine buyer will have no issue signing. As there are literally hundreds of willing purchasers who have missed out on the first round of Audi R8's there is expected to be a healthy re-sale and speculative market.
Don't be surprised to see the same situation in Australia. The Audi R8 has supercar looks and thrilling performance and will be retailing substantially below the new Porsche 911 Turbo which at $327,000 for the manual looks old fashioned and positively overpriced...even if it is quicker.
