Audi Q2 RS To Sit Beneath RS Q3 - With 224kW Photo:

Audi seems set to add to its range of powered-up SUV models with the Q2 compact, as the new model is about to undergo the Audi RS treatment.

Sitting below the RS Q3, the RS Q2 - according to reports out of Europe - will pack a 300 BHP (224kW) punch from a 2.0 litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine.

This would mean a 26kW deficit to the more powerful and presumably more expensive RS Q3, which uses a 2.5 litre five-cylinder turbocharged engine.

France’s Automobile Magazine claims the RS Q2 will, naturally, boast Audi’s quattro all-wheel-drive system, matched with an S-tronic automatic transmission.

The RS will also step-up the aggressive styling, which is already a step away from the Audi SUV norm in some respects on the Q2 as the carmaker looks to attract younger buyers.

Debuting at the Geneva Motor Show, the Q2 was described by Audi as “an urban-type vehicle for everyday driving and recreation, uniting a progressive design with a high level of functionality”.

Exterior measurements are 1510mm high, 1790mm wide and 4190mm long, with a wheelbase of 2600mm.

No less than six engines are available in the ‘regular’ Q2, depending on the market, including a 1.0 litre petrol three-cylinder engine and four-cylinder petrol engines in 1.4 and 2.0 litre capacities.

Diesel engines are all four-cylinder units available as 1.6 or 2.0 litre powerplants, with power ranging from 85 to 140kW.

A debut for the Audi RS Q2 could come next year or early in 2018, but Audi has said nothing at this stage. Watch this space.
