While visiting the Paris Motor show, Audi board member Peter Schwarzenbauer confirmed rumours that Audi will launch a small fully-electric city car, coming in the not-too-distant future.  With rumours circulating that Audi's main rival, BMW, is working on an electric version of the Mini Cooper for the LA Motor Show, such a move would make sense for Audi.

Initially it was thought Audi would base any such vehicle on the delectable A1, as shown at the Paris Show, but Schwarzenbauer also confirmed that the new model would be based on Volkswagen's Up! concept.

The platform utilised in the Up!, pictured above and destined to be called the Lupo, is slated to be shared across the entire VW group of brands. The versatility of the Up! platform should allow Audi to fit the required batteries and associated hardware.

The next few years may be the start of a wave of all-electric vehicles. With Audi's reputation for build quality, expect an Audi EV to be a solid offering.
