Audi's flagship A8 range will be the first to receive the latest incarnation of the MMI system, which stands for Multi Media Interface, and includes a host of upgrades designed to take the in-car infotainment system to new heights.

The new MMI features a 7" LCD attached to a 40Gb hard drive, only 10Gb is available for personal use though as the remaining 30Gb is used for the satellite navigation. That might seem like a lot of wasted space but when you consider the navigation system is utilising an Nvidia graphics processor to display 3D images of your surroundings in real time it starts to make sense.

Don't make the mistake of thinking this is just a spruced-up GPS setup. You'll also find a DVD drive, Bluetooth hands-free capability, an SD card slot, a USB port and an auxillary jack for MP3 players - things to keep you occupied on those nights when you should have thought more carefully about your answer when asked if her bum "looks big in these pants".

In addition to the A8, Audi has confirmed that the A6 and Q5 SUV will also receive the updated MMI setup "before long".
