AUDI HAS let its designers off the leash for this year's Worthesee GTI Tour in Austria, with several examples of the 2010 Audi A1 as their canvases.

Audi will show 19 cars at the event, and nine of them will be variants of the luxury carmaker's new entry-level hatch. Of those nine, Audi's design team has turned seven into custom creations ranging from a low-riding hot-rod through to an Urquattro-inspired racer.

"The Audi A1 fits in with the GTI meet because customization has always been a central topic for the Audi fans here at the Wörthersee and will also play a special role for A1 customers," Audi design boss Stefan Sielaff said.

Mixing in a dash of reality, police and taxi-themed variants have also been created - though any future A1 cabs are unlikely to be as tricked-out as this example.

Audi will also display a range of 'Competition' accessory and styling kits for the A1, to be made available when the A1 is launched into the market.

For our money, the satin black finish and ultra-low suspension of the hot rod variant is just what der doktor ordered.
