BMW tuning firm Alpina has just released details of its latest high-performance Bimmer to be launched in the UK, based on the 3 Series.

The Alpina D3 Bi-Turbo is available in Saloon or Touring (wagon) body styles. Alpina has cranked up the D3’s performance credentials by using a modified version of the twin-turbo 2.0 litre diesel, five-fingered from the BMW 123d.

The modified powertrain produces 157kW (214hp) and 450Nm (332lb-ft) of torque, up 7kW (10hp) and 50Nm (37lb-ft) over the standard unit. More importantly though, the Alpina D3 out-performs BMW’s own 320d and does so at a lower price.

Alpina’s D3 Bi-Turbo can hit 100km/h from standstill in 6.9 seconds, in either manual or automatic versions, on its way to a 245km/h top speed.

Fuel economy is rated at 5.4 l/100 km (52.3 UK mpg) and CO2 emissions are at 143g/km on manual-equipped cars.

Styling enhancements for the D3 include the usual restrained Alpina look.

A subtle front lip spoiler, side sills and rear apron extension meld with a rear boot-lip spoiler and subtle decal pack.

Multi-spoke alloy wheels round out the exterior package.

The Alpina D3 Bi-Turbo is available in the UK priced from £29,950 (AUD $64,005) for the manual and £31,585 (AUD $ 67,500) for the automatic.
