There will be some sad faces in Milan and Stuttgart this morning as the all-new Alfa Romeo Giulia and all-new Mercedes-Benz E-Class were aced by the Peugeot 3008 SUV for the title of 2017 European Car Of The Year.

The final stats showed 319 votes for the Peugeot 3008 to 296 for the Giulia and 197 for the E-Class.

Other all-new models in the running were the Volvo S90, Citroen C3, Toyota C-HR and Nissan Micra.

In fact, the Peugeot 3008 made history as the first SUV to win the coveted award since its inception in 1964.

And it’s not just the judges who were impressed – Peugeot has more than 100,000 customer orders for its all-new SUV.

The European Car Of The Year Award is decided by 58 journalists from 22 countries and this year they considered 30 new vehicles launched since early 2016.

Expect the all-new Peugeot 3008 in local showrooms in the middle of the year.
