We’ve suggested it is quite possibly the most beautiful car the world has ever known – a big call we know. But the exquisite Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione, is we believe one of a handful of cars worthy of this title. Pictured is the production version of the Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione Spider and as a drop-top its drop-dead gorgeous.

The 8C Spider will be making its full production trim debut at next month’s Geneva Motor Show, promising to be one of the star attractions and quite possibly one of the few displays that will upstage the requisite female models.

Like the 8C coupe, there will only be 500 Spiders produced with the majority of the production run finding homes in the States and Germany.

Under the voluptuous bonnet resides the Ferrari derived 4.7-liter V8, good for 336kW/450hp at 7,000rpm. The highly strung V8 is hooked up to a six-speed self-shifting gearbox that features wheel mounted paddle shifters. Alfa’s VDC traction control and stability system helps get the power to the ground and keep the 8C out of the shrubbery.

The beautiful (they could only be Italian) 20-inch alloy wheels hide Brembo brakes and carbon-ceramic discs, 380mm diameter up-front and smaller 360mm discs in the rear.

Alfa Romeo have gone quiet on the pricing but expect a hefty premium over the coupes €200,000 price tag, some estimates suggest a whopping €35,000 premium. We doubt any of the potential owners would bat an eyelid – and why would you. How do you put a price on perfection?
