Honda talks pretty highly about the power of dreams, and the Japanese automaker's got some pretty strong ones of its own.

One such dream is to build-up its Acura luxury marque in the US to the same levels of positive public perception enjoyed by Mercedes and BMW.

Unfortunately, selling re-badged Integras and Accord Euros hasn’t quite hit the mark, and that's something Acura intends to change.

With all guns blazing (but obviously not enough to light the room), Acura has revealed the first teaser images of a new CUV concept to debut at the New York Auto Show next month.

In case you aren't up to scratch with the latest in niche marketing acronyms, CUV takes the term 'Crossover Utility Vehicle' and replaces crossover with coupe.

If imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, the BMW design team responsible for the X6 ought to be feeling particularly proud right now.

Even though the moodily lit images hide any real detail, the Acura concept looks like it’s wearing a pretty sharp suit. Among the features we can make out are hidden rear door handles to lend it a two-door look, sharp looking head and tail lights and some serious curvature to those fat guards.

And, of course, a coupe-like roof line. The tightly-drawn rear of the passenger compartment flows in one long descent from the B-pillar to the high, duck-tailed rump.

From the right angle you can see a lot of Porsche 911 Targa through the rear pillar, which is never a bad thing.
