If you?re one of the people who finds car-brand-badged laptops garish and the sole domain of wankers, well, I?m with you. It seems we might just be in the minority though, judging by Acer?s latest addition to its long line of Prancing Horse laptops.
Successor to the outgoing 1100 model, the Acer Ferrari 1200 sports a carbon fibre lid, an anodized metal touchpad, and vents inspired ? they say ? by the exhausts on Ferrari?s F1 car. Under the hood lies a
4.3 litre V8 AMD Turion X2 Ultra CPU and 4gb of DDR2 RAM. Forgive me, I?m not sure what that equates to in kilowatts and Newton metres.
The display is a 12.1 inch LED-backlit unit, and an exclusive Bluetooth mouse is included in the deal. A slot-loading DVD drive is included, as is a ?large capacity? SATA hard-drive, Dolby Home Theatre sound, and WiFi. And because you want a Ferrari laptop, you?ll probably also be stoked to know there?s a built-in webcam.
Acer hasn?t advised yet what the retail on this thing is (?more than you can afford, pal: Ferrari?), but you can bet it?ll (figuratively) blow away just about any other equivalently outfitted unit.
The UK will get it first, in the first half of 2009, with the rest of the world to follow.
