Nismo fans in Japan can now buy the 2017 Nissan GR-R Nismo, unveiled in May of this year.

Prices in Japan start from AU$243,751 for the all-out Nismo version, while the “Track Edition By Nismo” is available to fill the gap between standard GT-R and the Nismo model - priced from AU$173,573.

For their money, buyers get a sports car that needs no introduction, specced-up with “motorsports-inspired” technology.

Improvements include optimised aerodynamics, a performance tune for both engine and suspension and styling cues unique to the GT-R Nismo.

There’s a new bumper that reflects the ‘normal’ GT-R’s facelift for 2017, but the Nismo bumper is made from carbon-fibre and carries additional engine-cooling features. It’s functional as well, with Nissan saying the 2017 GT-R Nismo “generates more downforce than any other Nissan production car to date”.

Inside, customers will find the focus aimed squarely at the driver, with an eight-inch touch-panel monitor, a carbon-fibre centre console, a new steering wheel with paddle shifters and Nissan’s Display Command control.

The Recaro bucket seats are also made from carbon-fibre, finished in Alcantara leather with red leather inserts.

Power comes from the same hand-built 3.8 litre twin-turbocharged V6 petrol engine as the GT-R, but power output have been lifted to 441kW (up 22kW). Drive reaches all four wheels via a six-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.

Nissan Australia confirmed earlier this year that Nismo models will soon be available to local customers. Timing and finer details are yet to be confirmed, but a debut centred around next year’s Bathurst 12-Hour is a possibility.
