Holden promises its all-new Spark sub-compact will "shake up the micro-car segment" when it arrives in showrooms in April, with the diminutive hatch set to offer premium features at a distinctly non-premium price.

The range will start at $13,990 for the Spark LS manual, with a CVT auto trans adding $1700 to the bill. The automatic-only Spark LT will head the range with a retail price of $18,990.

All grades will receive Holden's MyLink infotainment suite, which brings Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone mirroring and allows drivers to use the mapping, music, voice recognition, search and phone functions of their smartphone through the integrated 7-inch touchscreen.

And it's this feature in particular that Holden reckons will resonate with the Spark's target demographic of socially-active, tech-savvy people.

“Spark’s customers are a very social and connected group. They expect technology to work seamlessly, and that’s what Spark delivers,” said Holden's Executive Director of Marketing, Geraldine Davys.

“Spark’s combination of the intuitive Apple CarPlay and Android Auto with voice recognition software allows customers to continue their communication with friends or listen to music whilst enjoying their drive."

In the top-grade Spark LT, buyers will also gain the convenience of a push button starter, keyless entry, cruise control rear parking sensors and a reversing camera.

A reversing camera/sensors are available on the LS in conjunction with the optional Driver Assistance Package, which is only available from June with price yet to be announced.

Both model grades will be powered by a 1.4 litre four-cylinder petrol engine with 73kW of power and 128Nm of torque. A five-speed manual is standard on the LS, with an optional CVT (standard on the LT).
